A two-day free Healthy Darwen event is coming to the town's market square this weekend.

It will provide a wide range of health and wellbeing opportunities for residents.

The event runs on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm at Darwen Market Square.

On Friday a health and wellbeing information stall will offer insight, tips and resources from a range of providers located across Blackburn with Darwen to enhance residents' wellbeing journeys.

As well as a range of information stalls, visitors can also take part in a range of interactive games, test their strength and balance, and get a free mini–health check.

On Saturday, when the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Cllr Brian Taylor will be attending at 10.45am, there will be a host of activities on offer.

They include a wide range of live interactive performances on stage.

There will also be much more for people can get involved with, including free mini–health checks, fun family activities like biker tots, walking trails, cycling and much more.

There will be a climbing wall among other fun games and activities throughout the day.

Cllr Taylor said: "Healthy Darwen showcases what is available to improve health and wellbeing.

"Blood pressure tests are available for everyone and are very important.

"We hope to have the Fire Service along with an appliance, and the Police with a patrol car, which was very popular last year.

"There are stalls highlighting various services and organisations. Please support this event."

Organiser Ben Murphy, from Blackburn with Darwen Council's health and wellbeing team, added: “This event will be a great opportunity for the people of Darwen and elsewhere to find out the health and wellbeing opportunities across the borough through fun and interactive activities suitable for all the family.

"Don’t miss out on this opportunity to prioritise your health and wellbeing!"
