The council has warned of some potential disruption at Pleasington Cemetery and Crematorium today (April 29).

Some roads, in the part of the site known as ‘the extension’, will not be accessible to cars from 3.15pm. This is due to a large burial that is set to take place at 4pm.

This will not impact all parts of the site. The roads affected have been circled on a map, provided by the council.

Visitors have also been warned against parking on grass verges at the cemetery, as this is causing damage to grass and nearby graves.

A spokesperson for Blackburn with Darwen Cemeteries and Crematorium said: “Good afternoon all, there is a large burial taking place at 4pm and this is due to this the roads in red seen on the map (known as the extension) will not be accessible to cars today from 3.15pm. Everyone is welcome to access the area by foot.

“The rest of the cemetery is fully open to all vehicles.

“Please note we have also had issues recently with attendees to large burials parking on grass verges across the cemetery.

“This is causing a lot of damage to the grass with graves nearby. Please be mindful of where you park – as well as the dedicated car park there are many places to park along the roadside, rather than on the verge itself.”
